Political Education
Democracy cannot be realized without the participation of its citizens in social processes. This is why, particularly in the area of political education, the idea of participation has become firmly established and is reflected in the topics and methods of the seminars.
We understand political education as a social mandate to create spheres of action with young people, in which they can influence the development within their immediate surroundings, even including parliamentary politics. In doing so, we attempt to describe and develop new paths of participation which go far beyond the right to vote.
In the seminars, we work together with media professionals and artists on exemplary topics that are relevant to both the participants and society. Through the work on media and art productions, the participants acquire the principles of democratic coexistence and state their own goals which they present online and offline, because:
“Democracy can only thrive when the mass of ordinary citizens really has the opportunity – through discussions or via independent organisations – to take part in shaping public life and when they actively take advantage of these opportunities.” (Colin Crouch in “Post Democracy“, Suhrkamp, Frankfurt a.M. 2008, p. 8).
