International theatre and dance project: “Triad”

Work in the dance workshopGoing on holiday with family or friends, or simply relaxing and sleeping in – for many young people, that might sound like the perfect plan for the autumn break. Not so for 31 young people from Germany, Poland, and Macedonia, who met at the wannseeFORUM between October 5th and 13th, 2013, and developed their own plays and performances within the framework of the international theater and dance project “Dreiklang” (Triad). A diverse supporting program, including (tourist and alternative) excursions through Berlin, a visit to a hip-hop dance performance, and shared leisure activities at the center, also provided opportunities for relaxation.

To the Common Man resonated most strongly with the participants . This poem was thematically explored in the two theater workshops as well as in the dance workshop. However, motifs from the text, which advocates for peace while simultaneously criticizing the instrumentalization of the masses during the war, were then artistically implemented from very different perspectives: During the presentation of the results to the public, after the exhortation "You must fight for your country!", the question "Would you die for your country?" was answered with a clear no.

In the music theatre workshop, however – perhaps inspired by the hazy weather – the young people chose Charles Baudelaire's "Le Vampire" ( The Vampire ) and created a creepy, romantic, and tragic musical. A spooky backdrop, grotesque costumes, and "vampiric" makeup ensured that the audience's hair stood on end during the performance. This didn't stop them, however, from giving the young performers a hearty round of applause at the end of the presentation.

After fully enjoying the success, it was unfortunately time to say goodbye – but also to make plans for a reunion soon!
