{"id":11538,"date":"2016-12-06T15:48:58","date_gmt":"2016-12-06T13:48:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wannseeforum.de\/?p=11538"},"modified":"2025-07-30T14:00:33","modified_gmt":"2025-07-30T12:00:33","slug":"ernahrung-globalisierung","status":"publish","type":"seminare","link":"https:\/\/wannseeforum.de\/en\/seminare\/ernahrung-globalisierung\/","title":{"rendered":"Seminar for students: \u201eNutrition and Globalization\u201c"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/PSHKnj\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/5535\/31422738376_564f2d415b.jpg\" alt=\"DSC_0657\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>From November 28th to December 2nd, 2016, the event took place in <a href=\"https:\/\/wannseeforum.de\/de\/stiftung\">wannseeFORUM<\/a> a seminar on the topic <a href=\"https:\/\/wannseeforum.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Ernaehrung_wannseeFORUM.pdf\">Nutrition and Globalization <\/a>with students of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cvo-berlin.de\/\">Carl von Ossietzky School<\/a> Instead, the example of the tomato was used to illustrate growing conditions and trade routes of foodstuffs, and the connection with social and environmental consequences was discussed.<br \/>\nAfter all the organizational matters were clarified on Monday morning, the afternoon began with a presentation by Claudia Fix, a speaker from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.engagement-global.de\/\">Engagement Global<\/a>, The lesson covered topics such as the form and origin of our staple foods and how they have spread worldwide throughout history. This theme was revisited with a food timeline, where students had to put milestones in food production in the correct order. The nutrition quiz also allowed students to playfully apply their prior knowledge.<br \/>\nThe following morning, after a tomato rally to trace the journey of a tomato from field to plate, an excursion to Neuk\u00f6lln ensued. The first stop was the garden project. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prachttomate.de\/\">Magnificent tomato<\/a>, where vegetables and fruit are grown in old bathtubs, wheelbarrows, or crates right in the middle of the city. A member of the project team showed us around and explained the difference between her vegetables and those from the supermarket. We learned how community-supported agriculture works from a member of the <a href=\"http:\/\/kulturland-eg.de\/csa-hof-basta\">CSA Hof basta <\/a>over a hot drink in<a href=\"http:\/\/prachtwerkberlin.com\/\"> Magnificent work<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>From here we continued into the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cafe-botanico.de\/\">Cafe Botanico<\/a>. Here, seasonal dishes made with produce from their own permaculture garden are served. After enjoying a short tour of the garden, we had the opportunity to sample the ingredients. Over delicious soup, we chatted with the caf\u00e9 staff and warmed up a bit. Afterwards, we returned to the wannseeFORUM.<br \/>\nOn Wednesday, the participants began their workshop work. They had a choice of three different workshops: rap, collage, and infographics. Each group worked diligently on their project, culminating in a final presentation on Friday.
