Whether it&#039;s a tracking bracelet or an interactive speaker, everyday life and society are becoming increasingly interconnected. Algorithms are playing a growing role in all areas of life. What does this mean for our actions in a world where so much already seems &quot;pre-programmed&quot;? From December 11th to 15th, 2017, student teachers at the Anna Freud School explored various aspects of this question through working with different media \u2013 both analog and digital.<\/h5>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12756 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/wannseeforum.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/ComicCover_The_Revenge.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"418\" height=\"592\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wannseeforum.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/ComicCover_The_Revenge.jpg 418w, https:\/\/wannseeforum.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/ComicCover_The_Revenge-212x300.jpg 212w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 418px) 100vw, 418px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The participants of the <strong>Comic workshop<\/strong> From their discussions on the significance of algorithms and artificial intelligence, they developed a story that begins in a technology museum in the distant future and looks back to the year 2020. &quot;The Revenge&quot; speaks for itself: hence the title.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/wannseeforum.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/comic.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Download and print the comic book &quot;The Revenge&quot; (pdf, 52 MB)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>What exactly are social bots and what purpose do they serve (us)? <strong>Multimedia workshop group<\/strong> For her research, she conducted a Skype interview with Andrea Uecker from Shakeinnovation about Novibot, the chatbot from the public broadcaster&#039;s youth service, funk. In a <a href=\"https:\/\/yourpart.eu\/p\/wannseeforum-socialbots\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Etherpad<\/a> They collected interesting links on the topic. But what attitudes, interests, and goals drive the writing of these programs? Does personal programming experience support understanding and discussion of the role of algorithms and programming in democratic society? Which robots are desirable for educators in their role as mediators of democratic attitudes and actions in the digital society? The participants of the <strong>Maker workshop<\/strong> They discussed this and experimented with building and programming mBots. For example, they programmed their small robots to generate harmony and joy (instead of hate speech). Search algorithms\u2014whether on Google or in our own Facebook or Instagram accounts\u2014suggest specific images in response to terms and questions. Do these algorithms reinforce or dismantle clich\u00e9s, stereotypes, and prejudices? Are image-analyzing algorithms neutral, or do they influence our perception of the world? The workshop participants explored these questions. <strong>Black and white photography<\/strong> Against this backdrop, they intensively studied algorithms, researched, discussed, and used analog photography to express their views on the digitally &quot;programmed&quot; society. How do questions of freedom and self-determination versus external control arise when, for example, smart toys become an integral part of growing up in a digital society? What significance do morality, feelings, and values have in a world where robots play an increasingly important role? In the workshop <strong>Staged reading<\/strong> Based on their research and discussions, the participants developed their own texts in various genres and staged these as a performance entitled &quot;Industrial Revolution 4.0&quot; for the final presentation.
