What is it about?

“Memory Walk” is about memory and remembrance, and about the question what history and the past have to do with our present-day society. Memorials are at the core of our project, i.a. places that aim to make us remember: Why do we need these places – do we need them at all? Which histoires, stories and debates stand behind our memorials? What do memorials mean to people nowadays? And how can remembering human rights violations and discrimination in the past help us to show moral courage today and fight for a just society?

Our programme

You will be spending six days in a German-Dutch-Slovenian group of youngsters at wannseeFORUM Berlin. Together you will explore different memorials in Berlin and will learn how to “read” these places of remembrance. You will then chose some of the memorials to portray in short films in three different international film teams. This includes research into the memorial and its history, a close inspection of the actual site as well as interviews with passers-by: What does “your” memorial mean and tell to the people in the street? At the end of the exchange your film will be publicly presented. There will also be fun and shared activities during the evenings.

You can find more detailed information on the concept of “Memory Walk” on the website of Anne Frank House Amsterdam.
