A student council seminar took place at the wannseeFORUM from September 12th to September 18th.
Around 50 students from four schools in Berlin came together to explore the topics of elections and student representation. They arrived on Monday morning, and everyone was a little excited about what the week would bring. After the most important organizational matters were addressed first in a plenary session and then in school groups, and the seminar representatives were properly elected, the students went to their respective workshops for the first time. The young people could choose between acting in plays, making films, taking black and white photos, creating a blog, or drawing pictures. After a short introductory session in the workshop groups, everyone enjoyed a delicious dinner, and finally, they all came together again for a get-to-know-you evening with speed dating and the game "Werewolves.".
The following day, after the plenary session, everyone gathered in their workshop groups, where work began immediately. There wasn't much time before the presentation on Friday, and everyone was motivated to produce something worthwhile. The topic was explored from a variety of perspectives in the different workshops, and the work of the student council and the school elections were repeatedly discussed. The week flew by, and before we knew it, presentation day arrived. Some workshops continued working late into the night on Thursday to finalize their projects. The presentations went very well, much to everyone's satisfaction. Black and white photography  The topic was more related to everyday life. While in the Video group The election campaigns for the parties were targeted, as was the case in the character group The topic of the American election campaign is very current. Theatre group Her piece dealt with the question of homophobia or heterophobia and the question of digitalization. Weblog group presented the blog they had designed and was thus able to provide an overview of all the groups at the same time.
In the evening after the presentation, there was a large karaoke session where everyone could show off their singing talent.
On Saturday, things got more concrete. For the large-scale student council simulation, each workshop prepared a proposal, which was then discussed and ultimately voted on in a simulated student council meeting. The students were also able to address problems from their own schools; for example, one group called for a blacklist listing all threatened (officially prohibited) collective punishments. After all the proposals had been discussed and voted on, the official part of the seminar was over, and only the big closing party remained. There was singing, laughter, and lots of dancing until everyone was tired and went to bed.
Thus ended the student council seminar and on Sunday everyone departed again, but with many new ideas and concepts for upcoming student council projects in mind.
