Right here, right now: Human Rights! – International Youth Conference

From November 9th to 12th, 2018, an international youth conference will take place for the first time at Wannsee in cooperation with the Foundation Remembrance, Responsibility and Future as part of its EUROPEANS FOR PEACE . To mark the 70th anniversary of the UN Convention on Human Rights, 65 young people (aged 16-27) from 12 member states of the Council of Europe will come together here at the House of Remembrance, Responsibility and Future to exchange views on the topic of human rights.

The 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights was a fundamental response to historical injustices, particularly the unprecedented Nazi crimes and the Second World War. But where do human rights stand in 2018? At the first youth conference, Right Here, Right Now: Human Rights!, we will discuss the significance of human rights for us personally and for our social responsibility. Together, we will examine their origins, the 30 articles, and place them in current contexts such as displacement and migration. We will also address the question: What can each of us do to defend human rights? During the conference, we will learn tools to get involved in everyday life. With workshops and discussions led by activists who advocate for youth participation and human rights, we will learn, discuss, plan, and celebrate together – we look forward to eventful days and a lively exchange.

The project website provides information about the program, the speakers, and their areas of expertise. As the conference is international, all information is available in English.
