On Saturday, August 31, 2019, the time had come: To mark its seventieth anniversary, our youth education institution received the Council of Europe's quality seal for youth centers for the period 2019-2021.
Following a commission's review of our institution last year, the decision was made to include the wannseeFORUM Foundation as the 14th youth center to be awarded the Council of Europe's Quality Label. The wannseeFORUM is the first youth education center in the German-speaking world to receive this distinction.
The award ceremony took place in the presence of Sigrid Klebba, State Secretary of the Berlin Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family. She emphasized the significance of the Council of Europe's Quality Label, particularly in light of the eightieth anniversary of the start of the Second World War. Dr. Franziska Giffey, Federal Minister for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, congratulated the youth education center on the award with a message of greeting, quoting former Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker: "Where there is freedom, human rights, and pluralism, there is Europe." Dr. Giffey praised the wannseeFORUM's approach to youth work, which focuses on dialogue, mutual understanding and respect, and fostering an appreciation for European values among young people.
Antje Rothemund, Head of the Youth Department of the Council of Europe, awarded the wannseeFORUM Foundation the quality seal on behalf of the European Steering Committee for Youth (CDEJ) for its outstanding educational approach in its political, cultural, media and artistic education program.
