We are very pleased that the German Children's Aid Fund is supporting our project "Our School-Our Student Council" with 3,000 euros.
The aim of the project is for the class representatives of the Kastanienbaum Elementary School in Berlin-Mitte to get to know each other and their role. Over two workshop days, the participants learn about their rights and responsibilities and develop initial ideas together, which they can then implement at their school. The newly acquired knowledge and experience are put into practice using the example of student council work. The students are made aware of the opportunities and limitations of participation, and methods for project implementation and compromise-building are explored with them.
Michael Kruse, Regional Coordinator of the German Children's Fund, explains: "The German Children's Fund is very happy to support the 'Our School - Our Student Council' project of the Wannsee Forum Berlin. Because it is very important that children have opportunities and possibilities at school to contribute themselves and their interests."
Roman Fröhlich, Educational Director of the Wannseeforum Foundation, adds: “The class council and the student parliament represent democracy in the everyday culture of primary school students. For these bodies to work effectively, they need some basic tools. We want to provide not only these tools, but also support them in finding projects that can be implemented over the course of a school year, so that in the end all the students at Kastanienbaum Primary School see: participation pays off.”
