The "desk" of a computer as a "window to the world," the compromises and contradictions of the extraordinary times we have experienced in recent months: on the one hand, social distancing within our own homes or apartments , and on the other, engagement in global actions. This theme is the focus of *About Resistance (interfaced)*, 2020 – an installation developed by the young participants of the European project "Art Works! European Culture of Resistance and Liberation" together with the artist Alessandra Ferrini . Starting this coming Thursday (June 18), this work will be exhibited at the small Museion – Cubo Garutti in the Don Bosco district of Bolzano, alongside * Solely You It's No * – a work by an Austrian working group that is also a partner of "Art Works!". On the occasion of the opening on June 18, the young participants will from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. to discuss their work with visitors and passersby. Anyone who engages in conversation or wants to see the work in person will receive a drink voucher redeemable at Café Museion. All interested parties are invited to accompany the young people on their walk from Cubo Garutti to Museion. The project partners and the artist Alessandra Ferrini will also be present "virtually."
About Resistance (interfaced) is the result of a collaboration between the group at Museion (Lucia Rose Buffa, Giada Cardillo, Gessica de Oliva, Nicole Fersko, Tomas Grosello, Samira Mosca, Camilla Saiz, Abram Tomasi) and the artist Alessandra Ferrini. Based on the values universally associated with the historical definition of resistance, the work draws on the timeless relevance of this concept with its diverse interpretations, also in the context of the epidemiological emergency that shaped the project itself. The installation, consisting of a banner and a video, reproduces a computer desktop as a window to the world (a role historically attributed to images), revealing the compromises and contradictions of the particular time we are living in: the isolation of one's own house or apartment and, at the same time, participation in global actions.
The Cubo also houses Solely You It's Not by the St. Pölten-based group – a work produced in collaboration with the artist collective Ruth Anderwald and Leonhard Grond . The work consists of photographic portraits of European women who joined the resistance during World War II . The images are accompanied by a poem by the Austrian journalist Hilde Meisel , who fought against the Nazi regime through her writings. The work also includes an audio file with voices in different languages repeating the poem's title. The file has a QR code and can be downloaded .
This first exhibition will be on display until August 2nd . A second exhibition, featuring works from the other participating countries, Croatia and Germany, will follow from August 4th to September 17th . The installation by the Italian group will travel to the other participating countries as a touring exhibition at the Museion – to the MSU in Zagreb, the wanseeFORUM Foundation in Berlin, and the Melk Memorial Centre for Contemporary History.
