May 9th marks the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. The project ART WORKS! European Culture of Resistance and Liberation, initiated by the Austrian association HASENHERZ and Foundation wannseeFORUM Berlin, and located at the intersection of artistic, cultural and historical-political youth education aims to celebrate this occasion. Youth groups from the Center of Contemporary History Melk in cooperation with FH St. Pölten (Austria), the MSU Museum of Contemporary Art Zagreb (Croatia), the Foundation wannseeFORUM Berlin (Germany), and Museion Bolzano (Italy) participate in an online youth encounter. Together with artists Anderwald + Grond (AT), OKO (HR), Katja Pratschke (GER), and Alessandra Ferrini (GB/IT), the groups create artworks addressing resistance and commemoration. These works will be presented online on May 9th from 5 pm., on the occasion of the commemoration ceremonies of the Melk Memorial and the Peace Festival Erlauf. Based on historical artwork on resistance against fascism, their works focus on the question of the significance for Europe of today. The results will not only be presented online but also in exhibitions in Museion Bolzano, MSU Zagreb, Museum Erlauf Erinnert, and finally in Berlin in the coming months.
