Over the weekend of November 16th to 18th, 2018, 21 children and young people from Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf participated in the training seminar “Fit for the Children's and Youth Parliament”.
The members of parliament kicked off the seminar with an introductory evening. Part of this involved a mutual exchange of questions about experiences and expectations in the children's and youth parliament.
On Saturday, the "Chocolate Game" exercise sparked lively discussions. In this exercise, four groups competed against each other under different starting conditions. If successful, the winning group was allowed to control the game itself, thus ensuring fairness. The aim of this exercise is to reflect on and raise awareness of interpersonal dynamics within the group.
The children's and youth parliamentarians then explored decision-making methods. Through "Systemic Consensus Building," they were prepared for participation in decision-making processes and applied the method directly to an example within the children's and youth parliament.
Afterwards, the participants spent their last evening together. Playing Werewolf and other games, they brought the second and final evening to a close before heading home the next day.
The final day focused on explaining the structures and parliamentary processes through a presentation by the chairperson and the head of the office of the Children's and Youth Parliament. District Councillor Heike Schmitt-Schmelz attended the presentation of the seminar results and expressed her enthusiasm for the work presented to her.
We thank all the children's and youth parliamentarians for your commitment and motivation this weekend and wish you every success with your upcoming projects.
The seminar was funded by the Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family
