Does life in and with social media change our perceptions, opinions, feelings, or actions? Does it alter individual daily life and social interaction?
Eighteen students from the Queen Louise Foundation spent a week in August participating in a film seminar exploring the topic of social media. The seminar began with an introduction to filmmaking techniques. The participants learned how a story is told in film, the importance of shot sizes, and the meaning behind different camera angles.
What camera movements are there? What is the difference between dialogue shots, and how can these be used to convey specific messages, create tension, and tell stories? In small groups, participants then filmed and edited a dialogue, rehearsing on-set behavior so they could apply everything to their own film projects. To develop ideas, there was an intensive exchange about their own social media behavior, the hopes, and the fears associated with it. From diverse perspectives on the topic, four very different short films were created. They address gambling addiction, cyberbullying, the insecurity caused by influencers, and a transgender story.
Many guests attended the presentation at the wannseeFORUM, and the films can now also be viewed online on Vimeo.

The seminar took place as part of the "Political Youth Education in the AdB" within the "Digital Media and Democracy" .
