Between YES and NO: Self-determination requires making one's own decisions
Controlled by Google, Facebook & Co.?
Self-determination through one's own decisions?
# – The hashtag stands for hashtag = a search term that makes topics easier to find on social networks like Twitter. However, the hashtag/hashtag has long since become a symbol for the increasing global interconnectedness. Current topics in media society can be seen in Twitter trends indicated by # numbers – such as #dataretention, new, increasingly #smarter devices like smartwatches, or the #hacking attack on the German Bundestag.
In the seminar “Google, Facebook & Co.” in June 2015, trainees from the Louise-Schroeder-School explored digital self-determination and external control in a globalized media society, creating their own media and conducting research for it. To gain different perspectives, they interviewed experts such as Martin Gottschewsky from the initiative “Lawyers Against Total Surveillance”, Paula Glaser from “Jugend hackt” (Youth Hacks), and Holger Krekel, a programmer who has been involved for many years (including with the Chaos Computer Club).
The participants published the results from the workshops “Staged Reading”, “Live Comic”, “Black and White Photography”, “Audio” and “Multimedia” – after the live presentation to guests – partly on the internet in their self-created blog wasisteinhashtag.wordpress.com.
