Thirteen young people and two chaperones from Berlin's Mitte district visited Holon from March 28th to April 2nd. As part of the Young Ambassador Program, we met with these young people and their chaperones in the city near Tel Aviv and spent an exciting and enriching week there. Together, we explored Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, visiting three holy sites: the Dome of the Rock, the Western Wall, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. At Yad Vashem, we discussed how we deal with the Holocaust today and its significance for us. The diverse perspectives became clear during our visit to the Yitzhak Rabin Center, and the question of historical perception and the objectivity of facts will likely remain a topic of discussion during our return visit.
Despite all the discussions, there was also plenty of time for getting to know each other personally. We celebrated Shabbat together and there was even time for sunbathing on the beach in Bat Yam.
We look forward to their return visit in October. We will then be welcoming 13 young people from Holon to the wannseeFORUM.
The exchange is supported by the Mitte district office of Berlin, the city of Holon, conAct and the wannseeFORUM.
