What exactly is respect? A big word, an abstract concept that must first be given meaning through our attitudes and actions. For living and learning together at the wannseeFORUM – whether in person or, as increasingly in online formats in 2020/21 – we developed a Respect Charter It serves as the foundation for positive interaction for everyone who comes to the wannseeFORUM. But how can it be communicated effectively, and how can we find visual representations of respect and continue the discussion? In a seminar from September 23-27, 2021, students from the Media and Communication courses at Friedensburg School explored these questions and developed their own media projects on the theme of "#respect – offline & online."

In five days, exciting and very diverse films were created. Experience gained from playful exercises, such as the "Game with Fundamental Rights" – "GG20," developed by the Protestant Academy and its regional centers for democratic culture, or from team building activities like constructing a tower together, was also incorporated into the project development.

The stop-motion workshop conceived and produced an explainer video entitled "What is Respect?". Original drawings were animated by hand in a lightbox, voiceovers were recorded, and everything was then digitally assembled and produced as a film.

Stop-motion workshop: What exactly is respect?

The RAP workshop tried to find its own words and images for the sections of the Respect Charter and created a RAP song and film:

Rap workshop: respect charter

The film group used the Respect Charter as a basis for a story: a (science) fiction scenario about an experiment in responsibility. (Unfortunately, this contribution cannot be published due to copyright reasons.)

Enjoy watching! We look forward to further exchange on the topic of respect – offline & online and of course to the lived practice in the wannseeFORUM.

The seminar was funded by the Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family and took place as part of the collaboration in the program “Political Youth Education in the AdB” in the project group “Digital Media and Democracy”  .
