Training for student mentors

Over fifty dedicated young people, five days at Pohlesee, three schools: the Ferdinand-Freiligrath-School, the Gutenberg-Oberschule, and the Immanuel-Kant-Gymnasium. The common goal of the training seminar for student mentors from May 18th to 22nd, 2015: After the summer holidays, the participants, as student mentors, should ensure that the new seventh graders feel warmly welcomed and are supported in coping with the change of schools.

The Gutenberg High School and the Immanuel Kant Gymnasium have several years of experience with their "team projects," and many students have already participated in more than one training week. The Ferdinand Freiligrath School is currently reviving its mentoring program and was a guest at the wannseeFORUM for the first time. Even during the seminar, actively creating a welcoming atmosphere was a priority. In addition to training in moderation techniques, public speaking, conflict resolution strategies, group methods, and action planning, examining the responsibilities of student mentors and reflecting on group dynamics played a crucial role. What does exclusion mean, and what mechanisms are at play? What are the effects on those affected? What constitutes a balanced relationship between individual responsibility and solidarity-based support? – Over the course of the week, it became clear that these questions, even after many years of experience as student mentors, need to be continually revisited.

Both the new and the more experienced student mentors are now prepared for their assignment at the start of the next school year.

And by the way, there's now also a team anthem:
