Further information

From October 15th to 19th, volunteers from the Turkish Federation Berlin-Brandenburg met at the wannseeFORUM to exchange ideas on the topic of “homelands”.

The seminar began with an introduction to the topic: excerpts from reports, exercises, and a World Café on the theme of "home" provided the foundation and discussion material for the coming days. The participants shared their thoughts and opinions on questions such as "Can you choose your own home?" or "What do you miss when you're homesick?".

For five days, the volunteers worked in four art workshops on their projects, which they presented on Friday. In the rap, photography, theater, and musical theater workshops, the participants in the FSJ (Voluntary Social Year) program took the opportunity to express their individual feelings and understanding of "home(s)." The upcoming final presentation noticeably increased their motivation throughout the week and fostered a focused and productive atmosphere.

Outside of their workshop activities, the volunteers got to know each other during the evening programs they organized themselves. Whether the participants ended the day with a campfire, a Just Dance night, or the closing party, there was dancing and singing every evening. Above all, making music and dancing together significantly strengthened the group's sense of community.

On the day of the presentation, the workshop groups had the opportunity to present their work to one another. The music theater workshop kicked things off with their "Home Sounds Voting Machine." Here, the audience could choose from eight "tracks." For each track, the group staged a performance depicting the feelings of home experienced by one of its members.
Next came the photography workshop's exhibition. The group photographed objects or places that they associate with home and displayed them in a gallery.
The theater group's presentation evoked both laughter and tears in the audience. It explored what it can be like to lose one's home or to be homeless, and addressed the clichés associated with the word "home."
The rap group concluded the presentation. Each member rapped about their own personal sense of home, where and when they feel at home.

The wannseeFORUM thanks you for an eventful week and looks forward to the next seminar in March 2019.
