Since the founding of the youth education center in 1948, we have been committed to the goals of democratic education. Based on the European Convention on Human Rights, we resolutely oppose all forms of group-based hostility in our youth education work.
- The youth education center with overnight accommodation, serving as a "safe space," is a crucial part of our concept. To create such a space for themselves and others, the seminar begins with a discussion of the importance of respect when dealing with differences and similarities, prejudices, emotions, boundaries, and contradictions.
- Many young people experience for the first time in their lives an intensive learning experience in a group made up of very different young people: While learning, eating together and during leisure time, they are in a "safe place", in an atmosphere of security and tolerancethat protection from discrimination and exclusion .
- In our art workshops, we encourage young people to treat themselves and others with respect. It demands tolerance and respect when they open up to other participants and tackle challenging tasks together: Working together to bring their work to the point of performance or exhibition readiness often pushes them to their emotional limits.
- We support young people by teaching them skills such as self-reflection, changing perspectives, multiple perspectives, conflict resolution skills , and dealing with ambiguities.
- Jewish history and culture are incorporated into the workshops as inspiration or are themselves the subject of our seminars. They explore the diversity of Jewish life in Berlin . Excursions take place to the former Scheunenviertel (Barn Quarter) or to Holocaust memorial sites. They are also an integral part of our youth exchanges with young people from Germany and Israel, some of whom have a Palestinian/Arab background. Together we visit mosques and celebrate Shabbat.
Through the educational work of the wannseeFORUM Foundation, we protect Jewish life and follow the solidarity appeal "WE PROTECT JEWISH LIFE" – #weprotectjewishlife of the Jewish Community of Berlin.
NEVER AGAIN IS NOW!
